West Cape Howe Frankland River shiraz

Deep Ribena Purple colour. Beautiful perfume aromatics. There’s a fair bit of oak here — but it just works. Like a Black Forest gâteau: balanced, complex and comforting all at once. Concentrated black fruits, cherry compote and ripe latepicked plums layered with dark mocha, vanilla, rich cacao powder and a light dusting of Biscoff spice. Dutch liquorice, olive brine, graphite and pencil shavings bring savoury depth, while violets, blood orange blossom and wild thyme flowers keep things pretty alongside that unmistakable Frankland River red dirt. Rich and mouth-filling — juicy, plush dark fruits up front roll across the tongue, followed by lovely tactile, chewy, chalky tannins with amazing grip. One of those wines where the carpet matched the drapes. Black olive brine and Dutch liquorice lend a salty line of acidity, giving a gorgeous extension to the palate — savoury, fresh and mouth watering. White pepper, nutmeg and earthy bush notes bring that unmistakable Frankland River character, while hints of pomegranate, white nectarine and faint citrus add an unexpected brightness as the wine opens.
