Of all the Riesling we tasted during judging, this was the über-pretty, floral, fine one. What a wine. From the day: “Soft, powdery and fresh; laser acidity across the palate, which drags the fruit out over the long finish.” Wines like this are the reason the Great Southern has a reputation for powerhouse Riesling, and Howard Park Wines has been one of the region’s flagbearers for decades.
It was a very early and compact vintage, resulting in wines of good fruit concentration and generosity, even with rieslings such as this. Light lift on lemon rind and apple on the nose lead through to a palate that retains a crisp and refreshing appeal. A twist of lemon and an edgy zest complete a very tidy wine for drinking in the short term.
